Transport from Bucharest Airport to City Centre

If you are planning to visit Bucharest Romania, one of your concern is probably, the transport from Bucharest Airport to City Centre.

The distance from International Airport Henri Coanda to City Center (when I say City Center, I mean Old Town zone) is 20 km and it can be reached in 30 min – 60 min depending on your arrival hour and on the day of the week. During the working days the traffic is worse than during weekends, of course.

What I will tell you bellow is my opinion (as a person who lives in Bucharest) and I hope this will be helpful for you.

Uber

If you are using Uber in your country, then this is the best option here in Bucharest, I think. An estimated fare from Bucharest Airport to City Center, starts from 6.40 eur – 8.61 eur.
Why would I choose Uber?

  • It’s cheap;
  • You don’t have to exchange money in the airport (at a very bade rate!) because Uber will take the fare from your card
  • It’s clean
  • There is a pretty big chance that the driver will speak English 😉

TAXI

In most cases I would say that this option is not so good, though the price/km is very cheap – it starts with 1.39RON/km (~0.30 eur). Attention!!: ignore anyone who approaches you inside the station
Why wouldn’t I recommend a taxi?

  • Drivers are not always interested to ensure the best for the passengers: their cars are not always in good conditions, they exceed the speed limit and they might use the least fast or longest routes;
  • You will have to have cash in RON, and as I said the exchange rate is horrible in the airport;
  • If you have big luggages, the trunk may not be available for depositing them because of the Gas Cylinder which most of the taxies have (Yes! They switched from petrol to gas because it’s cheaper)

Well, this is it! If you have any questions regarding the transport from Bucharest Airport Henri Coanda to City Center feel free to comment, and I will try to answer as quick as possible.
